Origin

Wade Wilson — Deadpool — first appeared in The New Mutants #98 in February 1991, created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza. He was introduced as a mercenary villain and revealed over time to be a former Weapon X subject whose forced regeneration left him with a healing factor that resists almost any wound at the cost of permanent disfigurement. The fourth-wall-breaking comedy persona — the part everyone now associates with the character — was layered in over Joe Kelly's late-1990s run.

Comic history

Deadpool's modern voice was established by Joe Kelly (1997–1999), then expanded by Gail Simone, Daniel Way, and Gerry Duggan across solo titles and the X-Force/Uncanny X-Force runs. Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force in particular grounded him as a real combatant rather than a comedy filter. The 2016 film with Ryan Reynolds turned the character into a mainstream Marvel name. The defining tension of any good Deadpool story is the gap between the joke and the violence underneath it.

Deadpool in Marvel Rivals

Deadpool is a 250 HP Duelist whose kit pairs Dual Desert Eagles with twin katanas. Hazardous Hijinks and Headshot! refresh on hits, which lets him chain abilities back-to-back when he is killing things — and stalls hard when he is not. Healing Factor is the passive that lets him survive commits that would put any other Duelist on the floor. He is one of the most kit-dense heroes in the game and the skill ceiling is high; most of his power lives in resets and uptime, not raw burst.

Abilities

Dual Desert Eagles is the ranged primary. Kickass Katanas is the melee alternate. Healing Factor is his self-sustain passive. Bunny Hop and Deadpool in Your Area handle his mobility. Headshot! and Hazardous Hijinks are his reset-based damage abilities. Skill Issue, his ultimate, is a flurry that rewards landing his other abilities to fully cash out.

Spotting Deadpool in Rivaldle

The X-Force affiliation cell is unique to Deadpool in the database, so a single green there is the answer. His 1991 origin year is also unique. In Pixelation Mode the all-red kit with black accents is distinctive — Daredevil is the only other red-dominant silhouette. In Emoji Mode the chimichanga and chaos combination is essentially the joke.

Try the puzzle

Deadpool is a possible answer in every Rivaldle mode. The fastest way to spot him is usually a combination of two columns in Classic Mode plus a quick read of the silhouette or pixelation. Once you get a feel for the database fingerprints — the unique X-Force affiliation, the unique origin year, the red-and-black silhouette — most heroes can be solved in two or three guesses.
