Origin
Hela first appeared in Journey into Mystery #102 in March 1964, created by Lee and Kirby. The character is loosely modeled on the Norse goddess Hel, with the Marvel-specific addition of being Loki's daughter in the comics (though more recent stories have rewritten the relationship multiple times).
Comic history
Hela's most prominent comic appearances are Walt Simonson's 1980s Thor run, where she serves as the principal cosmic antagonist, and the various Ragnarok-themed event arcs of the 2000s. The 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok reintroduced the character to a mass audience and informs the Cate Blanchett-derived design choices in Marvel Rivals.
Hela in Marvel Rivals
Hela is a 250 HP Duelist who plays as a long-range punisher. She does not have hard mobility tools — Astral Flock is her closest analog and is more of an evasion than a gap-closer. The kit is built around chaining Nightsword Thorn projectiles into the Soul Drainer secondary, with Piercing Night as a finisher. She is one of the more punishing Duelists for new players because her movement is unforgiving.
Abilities
Nightsword Thorn is her primary projectile. Soul Drainer is her sustain tool. Astral Flock is the evasive movement ability. Goddess of Death, her ultimate, summons her Asgardian death horde and severely buffs her teammates within range.
- NIGHTSWORD THORN
- GODDESS OF DEATH
- ASTRAL FLOCK
- SOUL DRAINER
- PIERCING NIGHT
Spotting Hela in Rivaldle
The horned crown is the silhouette tell, paired with Loki and Thor. The all-black-and-green palette is the Pixelation Mode signature. In Classic Mode her Asgardian species narrows the field to three (Thor, Loki, Hela), her 250 HP separates her from Thor at 600 and Loki at 275, and her Villain affiliation cell pins her down — Loki is also Villain-affiliated, but Loki's gender is Fluid, which is unique to him.
Try the puzzle
Hela is a possible answer in every Rivaldle mode. The fastest way to spot them is usually a combination of two columns in Classic Mode plus a quick read of the silhouette or pixelation. Once you get a feel for the database fingerprints — the unique species cell, the unique origin year, the unique HP value — most heroes can be solved in two or three guesses.
