Origin

Mantis first appeared in Avengers #112 in June 1973, created by Steve Englehart and Don Heck. She was conceived as the Celestial Madonna — a Vietnamese-German martial artist destined to give birth to the cosmic messiah. Marvel's most notable contribution-without-attribution since: she has appeared at DC under a different name due to a long contract dispute about who owned the character.

Comic history

Mantis' modern profile is overwhelmingly film-driven — Pom Klementieff's portrayal in the Guardians of the Galaxy films is what most contemporary readers picture. The Rivals design leans on the cinematic version: green skin, antennae, and the empathic touch as the central kit conceit.

Mantis in Marvel Rivals

Mantis is a 250 HP Strategist whose kit is the most heal-dense in the role group. Healing Flower drops a sustained-heal flower; Allied Inspiration buffs nearby teammates. The skill ceiling is in flower placement — well-placed flowers can sustain a position for an extended team fight; poorly placed flowers waste the cooldown. She is the most forgiving Strategist for new players.

Abilities

Life Energy Blast is the damage option. Healing Flower is the deployable heal. Allied Inspiration is the team buff. Spore Slumber is the CC sleep. Nature's Favor is the burst heal. Soul Resurgence, her ultimate, ressurects fallen teammates and is one of the few abilities in the game that reverses team-fight outcomes.

Spotting Mantis in Rivaldle

Mantis' species cell is Empath — unique in the database — a one-guess fingerprint in Classic Mode. The pink-and-green palette is unusual in Pixelation Mode. In Emoji Mode the cherry blossom is a deliberate cue toward her Vietnamese-German heritage rather than the more obvious mantis insect, which would have been too literal.

Try the puzzle

Mantis is a possible answer in every Rivaldle mode. The fastest way to spot them is usually a combination of two columns in Classic Mode plus a quick read of the silhouette or pixelation. Once you get a feel for the database fingerprints — the unique species cell, the unique origin year, the unique HP value — most heroes can be solved in two or three guesses.
