Origin

Frank Castle first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 in February 1974, created by Gerry Conway and Ross Andru. He was originally a one-off antagonist, a Vietnam veteran turned vigilante who had been hired to kill Spider-Man under false pretenses. The skull-emblazoned design and the lethal-vigilante framing took hold over the next decade of appearances.

Comic history

The Punisher's most-cited modern runs are Garth Ennis' MAX-imprint series of the 2000s, which deliberately stripped the character of any superheroic context and reframed him as a war-crime drama protagonist. His relationship with the rest of Marvel publishing has always been awkward — Marvel has, at various times, asked Ennis to make him less explicitly nihilistic and asked other writers to lean into the antihero framing — and the Rivals design avoids the political controversy by leaning on his comic skull-and-tactical-vest silhouette.

The Punisher in Marvel Rivals

The Punisher is a 300 HP Duelist whose kit is built around a deployable turret and grenade pressure. Culling Turret is the deployable — placed on a sightline, it adds passive damage to wherever he is shooting. Scourge Grenade is the area denial. The kit rewards setup play more than reactive dueling. He is one of the most dangerous Duelists on a held position and one of the weakest on an open push.

Abilities

Adjudication and Deliverance are his ranged primaries. Scourge Grenade is the AoE. Culling Turret is the deployable. Vantage Connection is the mobility-and-positioning tool. Warrior's Gaze and Final Judgement are the ultimates — Final Judgement is the executable damage-window kill button.

Spotting The Punisher in Rivaldle

The skull emblem against the black tactical-vest costume is the strongest visual cue across Pixelation, Silhouette, and Emoji Modes. In Classic Mode his None affiliation narrows him to three heroes (Punisher, Squirrel Girl, Venom), and his 300 HP plus 1974 origin year pin him down — the other two have very different origin years.

Try the puzzle

The Punisher is a possible answer in every Rivaldle mode. The fastest way to spot them is usually a combination of two columns in Classic Mode plus a quick read of the silhouette or pixelation. Once you get a feel for the database fingerprints — the unique species cell, the unique origin year, the unique HP value — most heroes can be solved in two or three guesses.
